The Apple TV has been well-received so far. And it works great, as long as you stick with content downloaded or streamed from iTunes.beyond that, there's very little versatility.
here is some useful, handy and unconventional tips and tricks for getting the most out of your Apple TV!
1-Ditch the Apple TV remote and use your iPhone instead:
The Apple TV remote is pretty small, the buttons are too close together, and it's difficult to input text for searches . With the latest version of Apple's Remote app, you can control your Apple TV over your home's wifi network with a higher degree of control. Plus search is a snap thanks to the included keyboard. The free app is available for iPhone and iPad.
2-Holding down the menu button will get you back to the main menu faster than clicking menu 100 times.”
3-Holding up during playback shows info about the video. Holding select while the info bar is up gives you audio options (closed captioning).
4-Also, in Netflix, press “play” on the episode in the summary episode-list page to play it directly. Most people press “select” to go into the episode detail page and play it from there.
5-If you go to the settings, you can hide apps from the main screen, which is nice if you know you’re never going to touch a lot of things on it.
6-If you wish to organize your home screen more, you can select an icon and hold down on the center button until the icons start jiggling and move it wherever you want.
7-Configure your display settings to ensure you’re getting the best resolution for your TV size. I noticed that when I first set mine up on our 52″, it wasn’t even pushing HD quality by default.
8-iFlicks is worth every penny. You’ll want to format your movie collection so they’re optimized for streaming to your Apple TV, especially if you’re working across wifi on both systems. iFlicks will automatically format the video and gather the metadata for the video too.
9-If you have an iOS device, particularly an iPad, download and setup the Apple Remote App. It’s much easier to type on your iOS device than using the remote to move letter to letter. Or pair a bluetooth keyboard. It will save your sanity.
10- Jailbreak it to get more free apps :Jailbreakers cracked the second generation Apple TV in no time. It's a relatively simple process if you have a Mac. Lifehacker has a great tutorial to get you started. There aren't many jailbroken apps available at the moment, but there are several in development.
11-Install Plex to your Jailbroken apple TV:Plex is one of the first jailbroken apps available on the Apple TV. It lets you stream any multimedia file format to your television. There's also an iPhone and iPad app for greater functionality. Think of it as AirPlay without restrictions. After you've jailbroken your TV, you can follow Lifehacker's steps for installing Plex.
